The Kings of Mysore purchased these cannon guns from Italy, between 1856 and 1858. The Mysore Palace currently houses 11 such guns, all shining and in top-notch condition that they can be fired twice in just 90 seconds. These guns are placed besides the main entrance to the palace. These are maintained by the City Armed Reserve (CAR) police, Mysore.
An interesting fact about these cannons are that these were purchased not for war! These cannon guns are fired only during special occasions. Once every year, during the grand Dasara processions, shots from these cannons will reverberate for 90 seconds. What a joy to hear these! The cannons evoke profound feelings of love and admiration rather than instilling fear.
